Prior to founding this company, I was a Project Manager in the general contracting business in the DFW area and through the years I’ve had the opportunity to create, review and manage compliance with many SWPPP plans on many large projects. In this roll I have purchased large amounts of erosion and dust control products and have researched almost every installation and material on the market today. Then one day I was faced with an interesting problem: controlling dust in a 7 acre cement stabilized flexible base storage area for a high tech steel fabrication facility. The problem was compounded by the fact that this area would see large amounts of heavy truck and trailer traffic and by the fact that the material being stored in this yard was difficult to move around for future dust control maintenance applications. My research took me through many different dust control products, from magnesium chloride to organic petroleum and all these products had significant issues that was pushing me away from them. Water absorbing materials like magnesium were cheap, but could be very corrosive to steel (not a good thing for a steel fabrication plant). Asphalt based products appeared to work well under the traffic loading conditions we would see, but the cost to maintain this product (re-spray every 4-6 weeks) was way outside our tight budget. Then I ran across synthetic polymer emulsions. They performed as well as asphalt, were not corrosive and because of their long life span (12-24 months between applications) were much more cost effective in the long run (not to mention that the initial application cost was also competitive with asphalt). This is when I began my relationship with Environmental Products & Applications. After I left the company I worked for, I secured exclusive territorial rights to sell their Envirotac II product in the DFW area and the rest is a work in progress. As a former General Contractor and owner’s rep (for the project above), I understand the need for a balance between effective dust and erosion control measures and the cost of installation and maintenance. Call me today so we can discuss your issue. I will always point you to the right product, application and installer—even if it is a product I don’t carry or an installation I don’t perform.
